Ioannis Koutroubakis is Professor of Gastroenterology at the Medical School of University of Crete, Greece. He is the Head of the Department of Gastroenterology University Hospital Heraklion, Crete.
Dr Koutroubakis received the Bachelor of Medical Science, MD of University of Athens Greece and the PhD Thesis of Medical School, University of Crete. He was Research Fellow in Gastroenterology in Free University Hospital Amsterdam The Netherlands (1994-1995) and Research Scholar at UPMC, Pittsburgh US (2014-2015).
Dr Koutroubakis is editor in chief of Annals of Gastroenterology (2011-) and editor of the book Advances in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (2013 Future Medicine). He is member of the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD) and European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), He was National representative of Greece for ECCO
(2013-2019) and President of Greek Society of IBD (EOMIFNE, 2017-2020). He is Director of the Division of Internal Medicine Medical School University of Crete (2020-).
