On May 19th, the School of Medicine at the University of Crete, under the support of the WHO Europe, will host a special event to mark the official launch of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Quality of Care and People-Centered Health Policies.
The launch event will welcome distinguished delegates from the Ministry of Health, the WHO Athens Quality of Care and Patient Safety Office, the University of Crete, , the Region of Crete and the 7th Health Region of Crete to celebrate this important milestone. Professor Helen Papadaki and Emeritus Professor Christos Lionis (Co-Heads, WHO CC for Quality of Care and People Centred Policy) will share information the new Collaborating Centre’s mandate and actions the centre will undertake including opportunities for UoC faculty and local stakeholder’s.
The morning programme will include presentation from Dr. Joao Breda (Head of WHO Athens Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety) and a keynote presentation will be delivered by renowned expert Professor Kristine Sorensen (Global Health Literacy Academy) titled “Health Literacy National Policies in the WHO Region”.

School of Medicine to host workshop on Health Literacy
The School of Medicine will host a workshop on the new WHO Health Literacy Action Plan. The workshop will take place onMay 19th from 11:45am to 4:30pm. The workshop is being co-hosted by the WHO Athens Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety, the WHO Collaborating Centre for Quality of Care and People-Centered Health Policies, and the 7th Health Region of Crete.
The half day workshop will expose participants to the importance of health literacy, the main elements of the WHO Health Literacy Action Plan for Greece, and share health literacy experience in Greece. The workshop aims to strengthen regional stakeholders understanding of health literacy and actions to be taken to strengthen health literacy both within Europe and nationally.
