The Biobank Unit is supported by specialized cryopreservation equipment for the management and long-term preservation of biological specimens.

The infrastructure comprises a comprehensive and modern cryopreservation workflow that covers the entire preservation process, from controlled-rate freezing to long-term storage. Specifically, it includes a controlled-rate freezer, a vapor-phase liquid nitrogen (LN₂) storage system, and ultra-low temperature (-80°C) freezers, ensuring high sample viability, reproducibility, and integrity.

The combination of these technologies enables the safe and reliable storage of cell lines, primary cell populations, and biological specimens of diverse origin, together with their corresponding molecular derivatives, supporting a wide range of research and clinical applications in biomedical research, translational medicine, and cell-based therapies.

Planer Kryo 570-16 Controlled-Rate Freezer

The Planer Kryo 570-16 is a controlled-rate freezing system designed for the precise and reproducible cryopreservation of cells and biological specimens. It supports fully programmable freezing protocols across a wide temperature range, enabling precise control of thermal transitions and optimization of post-thaw cell viability.

The system operates using liquid nitrogen (LN₂) supplied by the central cryogenic infrastructure of the biobank.

Vapor-Phase Liquid Nitrogen Storage System MVE HEco 1536P-190-AF-BB-GB

The MVE HEco Series is a vapor-phase liquid nitrogen cryostorage system designed for the long-term preservation of biological specimens at temperatures below −150°C. Vapor-phase storage minimizes the risk of cross-contamination while maintaining a high level of biosafety.

The system represents a core component of the biobank’s cryopreservation infrastructure.

Thermo Scientific™ TDE60086FV-ULTS Ultra-Low Temperature Freezer

The Thermo Scientific™ TDE Series (Model TDE60086FV-ULTS) is a vertical ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezer designed for the safe and reliable storage of biological specimens at temperatures down to −86°C.

With a storage capacity of approximately 810 L and excellent temperature stability, the system represents a key component of the biobank infrastructure.

The freezer is primarily used for medium- and long-term specimen storage and serves as both a primary and backup storage solution alongside liquid nitrogen cryopreservation systems.
