Chrysoula Perdikogianni is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical School of the University of Crete, attending physician at the Department of Pediatrics of the University Hospital of Heraklion and Head of the Laboratory of Child Health, Mother and Child Division since September 2025.
She studied at the University of Thessaloniki (MD), University of Crete (PhD) and did her residency at the University of Athens Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia”. During 2004-2008 she worked as research fellow and academic instructor at the Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and research laboratory at the Medical School, University of Crete. During this period she obtained training in various laboratory techniques and has pursued several experimental projects. She has worked as attending physician at the same Department (2008-2013). She has obtained training in Pediatric Immunology in Athens (Department of Immunology and National Referral Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies, Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia” 2015-2016), in UK (Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children London, Great North Children’s Hospital Newcastle) (2014, 2016) and US (Boston Children’s Hospital) (2023) as well as Pediatric Rheumatology (Boston Children’s Hospital, 2023 and Pediatric Rheumatology Unit, 3rd Department of Pediatrics University of Athens, University Hospital “Attikon”, Athens).
Her previous and ongoing clinical and laboratory research projects include studies on inflammation and the bone marrow microenvironment, mesenchymal, endothelial and cord blood cells, mainly in hematological/immunological diseases, autoinflammatory and rheumatic diseases, clinical studies on vaccines and vaccine response in vulnerable patient groups, immunology of vaccine responses, vaccines in immunocompromised children, climate change and its effects on health of children.
She has received funding for research projects and research awards from National and European sources and has published her work in peer-reviewed international journals.
She is member of the Undergraduate Studies Committee of the Medical School at the University of Crete and Director of the Academic Board of MSc Program “Vaccines and Prevention of Infectious Diseases” and has extensive experience in conducting, supervising and presenting research projects.
