Dr. Miltiadis Tsilimbaris is the Professor and Director of the University Eye Clinic of Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He received his medical degree from the University of Patras Medical School, he was granted his PhD title form the Medical School of the University of Crete and he completed his residency in the University Eye Clinic of Heraklion.
He shares his professional time between clinical care, research and teaching
His clinical work is mainly focused in vitreoretinal diseases and he is an active vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon. He retains a strong research interest in retinal diseases. His research projects include among others the development of sustained release formulations of intravitreally delivered drugs, evaluation of new compounds for retinal pharmacotherapy in animal models, study of inner retina remodeling after retinal detachment, development of imaging techniques for the evaluation of retinal circulation, study of reading as a visual performance metric and development of new devices that facilitate ophthalmic interventions and surgery.
He is member of the Greek Vitreoretinal Society, ARVO, Americal Academy of Ophthalmology, Club Jules Gonin, and Euretina. He has published over 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and he holds 4 patents.
