Simulation-Based Training
From Knowledge to Clinical Practice in a Safe and Realistic Learning Environment
The Simulation Center of the School of Medicine at the University of Crete uses state-of-the-art simulation technologies to develop clinical skills, foster clinical reasoning, and enhance communication and collaboration among healthcare professionals.
«Ὠφελέειν ἢ μὴ βλάπτειν»
Healthcare professionals’ training should begin in an environment where learning and repetition can take place safely.
Simulation shifts the initial learning curve away from the patient and into the simulation laboratory, allowing trainees to practise, make mistakes, repeat procedures, and improve their skills before applying them to real patients for the first time.
From “Knows” to “Does”
Simulation-based training bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and its application in clinical practice.
Based on Miller’s Pyramid, the Center supports different levels of learning:
Knows
Knows how
Shows how
Does
The Role of the Center
The Center focuses particularly on the “Shows How” level, enabling students to demonstrate that they can apply their knowledge and skills before working with real patients.

ALEX GEN AI
The Patient Who Speaks, Responds, and Reacts
ALEX Gen AI combines interaction with a realistically conversing “patient” with the ability to perform clinical examinations and practise invasive procedures.
What Does It Support?
Natural Dialogue
Trainees can ask open-ended questions and interact with the patient
through natural speech.
Clinical Assessment
Supports vital signs assessment, heart, lung, and bowel auscultation,
blood pressure measurement, and ECG recording.
Procedural Skills
Intubation and ventilation, CPR with defibrillation, urinary
catheterisation, and other clinical procedures.
