The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Laboratory of the University of Crete School of Medicine, led by Professor of Anesthesiology Alexandra Papaioannou, was responsible for raising public awareness and providing certified training to Municipality of Heraklion employees in the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and the immediate response to cardiac arrest.
The mobile application was developed by the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), through the eHealth Applications and Services Center of the Institute of Computer Science (FORTH-ICS), under the direction of Mr. N. Stathiakis. It is available for both Android and iPhone devices through Google Play and the App Store. The application enables users to quickly locate the nearest automated external defibrillator (AED) within the Region. It also includes educational materials and step-by-step instructions in both Greek and English.
Download the app and install it on your mobile phone! Receive immediate first aid guidance in the event of an emergency. View the map of the 270 next-generation automated external defibrillators (AEDs) installed in sports facilities and other busy public locations across Crete. A heartfelt thank you also goes to the medical students who, for the past 22 years, have volunteered to train their fellow students and educate the wider community. The “ZOE” (Life) Program is a pioneering initiative for Greece that, as has already been demonstrated, is saving lives.
The “LIFE” Program, an initiative of the Region of Crete and Deputy Regional Governor Giorgos Pitsoulis, is implemented through a collaboration between the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Laboratory of the University of Crete School of Medicine, under the scientific leadership of Professor of Anesthesiology Alexandra Papaioannou; the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), represented by Mr. N. Stathiakis; and the Heraklion Medical Association, represented by its President, Dr. A. Patrianakos.
