Stamatiadis Georgios

Lecturer in Endocrinology

Harvard Medical School

Dr. Georgios Stamatiadis is an Instructor in Endocrinology at Harvard Medical School and practices as an endocrinologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Mass General Brigham). He is also an elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
Dr. Stamatiadis earned his Medical Degree with distinction from the University of Crete in 2013 and completed his PhD at the same institution in 2024. Following medical school, he pursued postdoctoral training in Neuroendocrinology at Harvard Medical School. His research, which formed the basis of his doctoral dissertation, focused on the mechanisms activated by pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion that enhance the synthesis and release of the gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
After completing his postdoctoral training, he undertook residency training in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Health – Bridgeport Hospital (2018–2021). He subsequently completed a fellowship in Endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School (2021–2024). During his fellowship, he continued his research in reproductive endocrinology, focusing on the role of KNDy neurons in the regulation of gonadotropin secretion.
Following the completion of his clinical training, Dr. Stamatiadis was appointed Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Clinically, he specializes in neuroendocrine disorders, while his research focuses on the reproductive and metabolic complications of Cushing syndrome.

2024  PhD in Neurosciences, School of Medicine, University of Crete, Greece
(Dissertation Title: Study of signaling pathways activated by pulsatile GnRH secretion leading to preferential stimulation of FSHβ under low-frequency GnRH pulses and low levels of GNRHR.)
2021–2024 Fellowship in Endocrinology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School, USA
2018–2021 Residency in Internal Medicine, Bridgeport Hospital – Yale New Haven Health, USA
2015–2018  Postdoctoral training in Neuroendocrinology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School, USA
2007–2013 Doctor of Medicine (MD), with honors, School of Medicine, University of Crete, Greece

The main scientific interests of Dr. Stamatiadis focus on the fields of neuroendocrinology and reproductive endocrinology.

More specifically, his research interests include the following:

  1. Investigation of the mechanisms underlying the higher prevalence of Cushing syndrome in women
  2. The role of AgRP neurons in the pathophysiology of the reproductive and metabolic complications of Cushing syndrome
  3. Characterization of the neural mechanisms that regulate kisspeptin release
  4. Study of the “decoding” mechanism of GnRH pulses by pituitary gonadotroph cells
