Eftichia Stiakaki is a Professor of Pediatric Hematology–Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete (UoC). She is the Director of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Clinic and the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Unit, including the affiliated Cell Processing Laboratory, at the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI). In addition, she has served as the Director of the Laboratory of Hematologic Disease and Cancer Biology in Children at UoC Medical School since its establishment.
Dr. Stiakaki earned her MD from the University of Ioannina and her PhD from UoC. She achieved board certification in Hematology at UoC, with clinical training in Pediatrics, Clinical Hematology, and Laboratory Hematology. She completed further training at the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit of St. Anna Children’s Hospital (Vienna, Austria), at the Stem Cell Biology Laboratory of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP, University of Pennsylvania, USA), and as an academic visitor in the Department of Hematology at St George’s Hospital (University of London, UK).
Dr. Stiakaki founded and serves as Program Director of the Master’s Program “Hematology–Oncology of Children and Adolescents,” the only MSc in Greece in this field. She has served the National Health System since 1983 and has held various leadership roles within and beyond UoC, including: Chair of the Pediatric Hematology Governing Committee of the Hellenic Society of Hematology (2022–present); Head of the Mother–Child Division at UoC (2023–2025); Head of the Second Department of Internal Medicine at PAGNI (2022–2025); Deputy Coordinator of the UoC Graduate Studies Committee (2021–2022); and Member of the UoC Committees on Academic Ethics, Gender Equality, and Anti-Discrimination (2020–2022). She leads the Working Group on “Adolescents and Young Adults with Neoplasia” of the Hellenic Society of Pediatric Hematology–Oncology (HeSPHO).
