Emmanuel Kefalogiannis is an Associate Professor of Thoracic Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Crete.
He is the director of Thoracic Surgery Clinic at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete.
Dr. Kefalogiannis received his medical degree and PhD from the University of Athens with honors.
He has specialized in Thoracic Surgery at the Sismanoglio, Evangelismos and Onassis hospitals.
He specialized in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery (VATS – Thoracoscopic Surgery) in one of the largest centers in Great Britain at St James University Hospital in Leeds.
He returned to Greece in 2020 after a 12-year successful career in Great Britain where he served as Clinical Lead in Thoracic Surgery Department for 5 years. During his stay there he was a pioneer in the development of Robotic Thoracic Surgery as early as 2016 and was one of the first to introduce this technique in Thoracic Surgery.
After taking over the management of the University Thoracic Surgery Clinic in 2020, Dr. Kefalogiannis proceeded to a complete restructuring of the operation and renewal of the equipment so that it operates based on international standards.
Since then, more than 1000 operations of varying severity have been performed with excellent results.
1991 – 1997: Admission following Panhellenic Examinations to the Medical School of the University of Athens.
July 28, 1997: Degree from the Medical School of the University of Athens. Grade: VERY GOOD.
September 8, 1997: Granting of a license to practice medicine by the Prefecture of Athens (East Athens Sector, Directorate of Health and Public Hygiene).
22 May 2007: PhD from the Medical School of the University of Athens. Grade: EXCELLENT.
Thesis title “MORPHOMETRIC AND HISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND STRUCTURE OF THE THORACIC AORTA OF MAMMALS”
24 March 2008: Granting of a license for the medical specialty of Thoracic Surgery by the Prefecture of Athens (East Athens Sector, Directorate of Public Health).
Dr. Emmanuel Kefalogiannis’ main field of interest is the Thoracoscopic and Robotic Thoracic Surgery and the surgical treatment of lung cancer. He participates as a researcher in national and international research projects. He has been invited as a speaker at many conferences of his
specialty and related specialties.
