Alexander D. Karatzanis was born in Quantico, VA, USA, on March 11, 1974. He is an Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, at the University of Crete Medical School.
Dr. Karatzanis completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Crete Medical School and received his Medical Degree in 1996. He received medical practice license in 1997, and served in the Greek Airforce as a sergeant physician for 20 months. He completed his residency in Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital of Crete from 1999 to 2004.
Dr. Karatzanis has been a staff member of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University Hospital of Crete since 2005.
He completed his PhD in medicine at the University of Crete School of Medicine, and received his diploma in 2007 (PhD Thesis: “Microsatellite DNA instability in patients with allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, and COPD. Comparison of results between upper and lower airway”).
Dr. Karatzanis has completed two clinical fellowships, at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany in 2008, and the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, University of Edmonton, Canada in 2013. He has held an academic position at the University of Crete School of Medicine since 2017.
Dr. Karatzanis possesses extensive teaching experience in medicine, in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also possesses extensive clinical experience in otorhinolaryngology with large numbers of treated patients and surgical procedures as a first surgeon every year. His clinical expertise mainly focuses on head and neck surgical oncology, rhinology, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland disorders, and pediatric otorhinolaryngology. His scientific work covers the full spectrum of Otorhinolaryngology, and includes more than 80 publications in international peer-reviewed medical journals.
