Konstantinos Pontikis is an Internist–Intensivist and Assistant Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Crete. He graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the 4th Department of Internal Medicine and subsequently specialized in Adult Intensive Care Medicine at the 2nd Intensive Care Unit of NKUA at the “Attikon” University General Hospital. He obtained his PhD in Internal Medicine–Infectious Diseases from the Medical School of NKUA.

He has served in the Hellenic National Health System as a consultant intensivist at the Intensive Care Unit of the 1st Pulmonology Department of NKUA at the Athens Chest Diseases Hospital “Sotiria.” Since 2025, he has been working as a consultant intensivist at the ICU of the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI). He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society of Intensive Care Medicine since 2017.

His research interests include hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial chemotherapy in critically ill patients, as well as research methodology and data science. He is also actively engaged in education in intensive care medicine, with a focus on infections in critically ill patients.

My research interests focus on hospital-acquired infections in critically ill patients, with particular emphasis on epidemiology and antimicrobial chemotherapy. I am also interested in research methodology, especially in the context of multicenter studies.
