Medical School, University of Crete, P.C. 70013 Heraklion, Crete

I was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Crete in May 2020 and was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in May 2025. I graduated from the Medical School of the University of Crete in 2005 and received the title of Vascular Surgery after training at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete. In 2016, I completed my PhD thesis on the assessment of the risk of rupture of small abdominal aortic aneurysms through a biomechanical approach, at the Medical School of the University of Crete and in 2018 the postgraduate program of the University of Thessaly on the ultrasound diagnosis of vascular diseases, receiving a scholarship. From 2018 until my appointment, I had served as an assistant physician at the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion.

I have published several articles in international medical journals and various chapters in books. I have given lectures at national and international conferences and have participated in the organization of national and international conferences. I am a member of International and Greek Vascular Societies and Medical Associations and a reviewer in International Journals.

My main clinical interests concern open and endovascular surgery of thoracic and abdominal aortic diseases, carotid disease and peripheral arterial disease. My main research interests concern computational simulation of various vascular diseases with emphasis on aneurysmal disease.

1999 – 2005: Medical School, University of Crete, Medical Degree.

2009 – 2011: General Surgery Resident, Venizelio Hospital.

2012: Research Contract at the Foundation for Technology and Research

2023 – 2017: Vascular Surgery Resident, PAGNI

• Hemodynamic pathophysiology of atherosclerotic stenosis and vascular surgery. Comparative study of the hemodynamic behavior of various reperfusion techniques with the aim of highlighting hemodynamically beneficial methods of bypassing and/or opening atherosclerotic stenosis.
• Hemodynamic pathophysiology and evolution of abdominal aortic aneurysms. Using numerical simulation methods, we aim to develop biomechanical models for assessing the risk of aneurysm rupture with the aim of individualizing the treatment of patients.
• Development of computational models for assessing the hemodynamic behavior of various surgical and endovascular grafts used for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
• Utilization of modern imaging methods with computed tomography or digital angiography (CT perfusion / DSA perfusion) in the study of various vascular diseases. We have studied the application of the above techniques in the study of atherosclerotic plaques that cause chronic occlusions in the arteries of the lower limbs, in abdominal aortic aneurysms and in the assessment of endoleaks after their endovascular treatment.
• Diabetic foot and its complications. Study of the application of autologous growth factors and growth factors from umbilical cord blood in patients with diabetes mellitus and foot ulcers.
• Application of literature summary techniques regarding Vascular Surgery diseases (Evidence synthesis)
