Elias Kehagias, MD, PhD, EBIR-ES, EDSI, FCIRSE, is an interventional radiologist at the Interventional Radiology Unit at Heraklion University Hospital. He is also an assistant professor of vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Crete Medical School in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He has expertise in peripheral vascular interventions, such as diagnostic arterial and venous angiography, PTA and stenting, TACE, and elective and emergency embolisation. He is also a specialist in non-vascular interventions, including PTCD and biliary stenting, nephrostomy and ureteral stenting, image-guided ablation, drainage and biopsies. His special interests include Peripheral Arterial Disease angioplasty, Endoleak embolization, SVC stenting, dialysis access interventions and central venous access procedures. In the field of vascular access, he has published two technique modifications: the ‘L-shaped tunnelling technique’ to facilitate more discreet port placement (2016), and the ‘arm-to-chest tunnelling technique’ for placing implantable ports or central catheters on the arm via internal jugular vein (IJV) access (2019). His academic interests also include bioethics, a field in which he holds an MA.
